SPINEL
from Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan
|
Spinel is formed in igneous or metamorphic rock. My tumbled spinel is in black and grey Marble, which is a metamorphic stone formed from an igneous rock that underwent great heat and pressure.
Spinel is often found in the same locations as rubies or other corundum - please see wikipedia / spinel for a detailed explanation, if you are interested. Red spinel has many of the same properties as ruby, in fact, until the late 1700s, no one realized the two were not the same stone.
Red is the color for physical vitality, stimulating the root chakra for strength and endurance. This makes Spinel the perfect stone for athletes. It has an abundant energy and increases one's endurance, helping to achieve goals and challenges. It is helpful in stressful situations, for workaholics, as it allows one to calm and center. Spinel comes in a wide range of colors in various shades of black, blue, green, violet, red, and combinations of these colors. Since my stones are pink we will focus solely on the properties for red (pink) Spinel.
