Ruck's Pit, near Fort Drum, Okeechobee County, Florida USA held the most amazing fossil clam shells filled with beautiful, gummy, golden calcite crystals.  The "Pit" is now closed, but a search on the internet will yield a phone number of the owner of the property and permission is still given to go through the piles left from quarry operations.  Over 150 identified species have been found from snake vertebrae and horse teeth to cowry shells and mollusks.

The specimens on this page are Calcite in Mercenaria permagna from the Pilocene - Pleistocene eras and all fluoresce and phosphoresce dull yellow green in SW and LW.

#11
3 x 2 1/4 x 1 3/8"

This piece is nearly all calcite crystals.  The bivalve portion of the clam shell remains - it measures 1 1/2 x 3/4" and some matrix was left on the piece - there are some calcite crystals attached to the matrix.  The largest of the large crystals measures 1 3/8" long and 3/4" wide!  This is an extremely beautiful piece and will display nicely.
