KYANITE

The name “kyanite,” derived from the Greek word, kyanos, means “dark blue,” but this useful mineral occurs in a variety of colors, including white, gray, green, brown, and black as well as different shades of blue.  It may even be colorless and now, as of November 2008, it comes in dark orange.  It can be translucent, and as purity increases, transparent.  On relatively rare occasions, rockhounds have found kyanite crystals that are both thick enough and sufficiently clear to facet into strikingly beautiful gemstones.

Kyanite enhances creativity, broadens perspectives, and helps achieve mutual understanding. It is a stone of attunement and brings calmness and tranquility and can assist with meditation. It is a stone of channeling, altered states, vivid dreams, dream recall, and visualizations and gives protection during these states.

In terms of physical ailments, it clears up sinus congestion and enhances the treatment of muscular disorders. Kyanite is one of only a few stones that never need cleansing or clearing. It assists in communication and mental awareness and also helps in dream recall.

The corresponding astrological signs for kyanite are Taurus, Libra, and Aries.  Kyanite aligns all chakras automatically and immediately and can also open the chakras.

Blue kyanite is used specifically on the throat and third-eye chakras.

Black kyanite is a boost to meditation, and is associated with the root chakra. Black kyanite is also very protective and deflects negativity.

Green kyanite is particularly good for balancing the heart chakra and maintaining heart balance.
